My Journey as SMM Intern

Began Somewhere at KaleidoSpace

To train or not to train - that was my dilemma until I came across a Facebook ad featuring Freelance Academy offering a 5-day training program for General Virtual Assistants. After verifying the page and feeling satisfied, I immediately enrolled in the training program, where Coach Monique Dejito was the instructor.

When the training program at Freelance Academy culminated, I was still curious and unsure if I could make it to the virtual employment industry, knowing I lacked all the necessary technical tools for the job. Against all expectations, KaleidoSpace, a Cebu-based digital marketing agency, where Coach Monique is a founder and a project manager, offered an internship program for General Virtual Assistants (GVA).

In the selection process for the internship program, the applicant is tasked to include an answer as to what motivates you to apply for the program. I answered: One has to start somewhere.

I rightfully started at Kaleidospace.

My internship as a Social Media Manager Intern at Kaleidospace started like navigating through untested space, but thankful for the ride. I applied as a GVA Intern but my application was accepted as a Social Media Manager (SMM) Intern. Despite the confusion, I eagerly took the chance and started outrightly.

In the first week of March 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to start my journey as a Social Media Manager Intern at KaleidoSpace. Over my month-long internship, I gained hands-on experience in copywriting, content creation, and analyzing social media performance. I researched copy frameworks and created content for various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. My tasks included writing captions, plotting in the content calendar, writing copies, and creating content. I came to know that the 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) not only exist as a conditional cash transfer program of the Philippine government but also as a copywriting framework known as Promise-Picture-Proof-Push. I also created captions and hashtags for Karnehan Carnivo Meat Shop content and organized and plotted the same in the content calendar. I have generated content for Karnehan Carnivo Meat Shop, specifically posters, carousels, and reels with captions and hashtags.

Throughout my internship, I also sharpened my skills in using tools such as Canva, Capcut, Google Sheets, and Trello. Additionally, I learned how to analyze social media analytics to determine the effectiveness of different campaigns. Two of the biggest challenges I faced were plotting the content calendar and creating reels in Capcut, as I wasn’t very familiar with Google Sheets and CapCut interfaces. To solve these, I learned the basic features through Google’s Help and Tutorials as well as my mentor’s assistance.

For future interns or anyone interested in social media management, always 'Stay Curious and Keep Learning'.  When in doubt, stay curious and take advantage of internship programs so you can stay updated on the latest tools, platforms, and strategies. Whether it’s for the purposes of employment, business, or simply personal growth, always be ready to learn. Curiosity does not always “kill” the cat. I was once curious, and that curiosity led me to learn.

My internship journey has been more than just a learning experience—it was a quest for advancement, creativity, and versatility. I have learned that managing social media is more than just storytelling: it is about engaging with authenticity and staying ahead in a fast-paced digital world. That it is not just about posting—it is about building a brand, fostering relationships, and creating an influence.

For a beginner with zero experience like me, I am grateful for the gateway KaleidoSpace has given me. I safely landed despite the bumpy ride because of the steady hands that guided me - Coach Monique as the captain, and the rest of the KaleidoSpace team, (Miss May, Miss Jherica, and the best educator/mentor Miss April) as the crew.

As this internship has finally culminated, I’m moving forward with great excitement taking these valuable lessons and newfound friendships with me. This experience has fueled my enthusiasm for virtual employment and I am excited to see where this journey will take me next!
